Remember that time I did a cleanse and said it wasn’t for me? Well I decided to give a different cleanse a try. The cleanse I did in May of last year was Jus by Julie and it was drinking six juices a day for 3 days and that’s it. It was extremely difficult and I felt sick almost the whole week from doing it, hence why I stated it was not for me. Well, as some of you may know I follow the Medical Medium, and drink celery juice every morning (not as consistently as I used to but I still try almost everyday). The Medical Medium created a cleanse called the Liver Rescue 3:6:9 Cleanse. So last summer I picked up his book Liver Rescue and in the book is the process of the entire 9 day cleanse. It’s not your typical cleanse where you’re basically not eating, it’s quite the opposite actually. He devised this cleanse to cleanse and detoxify your liver, most people do this for health reasons I wanted to try it because every person that did it stated how amazing they felt after it, and I wanted to feel that.

The cleanse is divided into 3’s. So the first 3 days is basically training your body to start weaning off different foods to prepare your body for the cleanse. For me, the first 3 days were super easy. The Medical Medium expresses that you need to be off dairy, gluten, eggs, canola oil and only consume 50% of animal protein and only at night time. Luckily for me, I already eat this way. The first three days were more adding things in like more fruits and veggies than taking away for me. Day 4 is when things got complicated. Days 4-6 you begin by drinking lemon or lime water upon waking, then waiting 20 minutes and drinking celery juice and then waiting another 20-30 minutes and drinking a “Liver Rescue Smoothie” which was actually delicious and I still make it for breakfast on the reg. Then for lunch and dinner to eat this “Liver Rescue Salad” and incorporate about two apples and 2-4 dates. You know your life is sad when the only food you look forward to is 4 dates lol. When you reach days 7-8 you mimic days 4-6 breakfast and dinner, but for lunch you do spinach soup and cucumber noodles, which to me was hard to eat. Day 9 is cleanse day, you’re not to consume anything but juice such as two 16 ounces of celery juice, cucumber apple juice, orange juice and lemon or lime water.

As hard as this cleanse was, boy was it powerful. I felt absolutely incredible on day 9 and a few days later. Day 9 was the day where you just drink juice and I was shocked that I wasn’t even hungry, I wasn’t craving anything! I also dropped close to 7 pounds, I know half of that is water weight but it felt great to not feel so bloated and blah. The first few days I didn’t have much energy but I felt very alert as day 6 came around. I slowly weaned myself back into eating slightly normal again, but I do nosh on apples more and other fruits than previously which I think makes a difference. A few days a week I’ll have the Liver Rescue smoothie for breakfast which I love and my celery juice as well.

This was during the cleanse, not even on the last day!

If you’re considering the Liver Rescue Cleanse 369, there are a few things you should know. Firstly, it’s not easy, I know someone that didn’t last the first 3 days, but they normally consume dairy, gluten, meat and eggs so that’s a challenge in it of itself if you don’t have sensitivities or allergies like I do then you probably regularly consume those items as well. Secondly, this cleanse as great as I felt on it, was extremely unrealistic for my life. Being an aesthetician I work long hour days, so on the days where I had to consume lemon or lime water then celery juice then a smoothie was insane because I had to basically wake up an hour early just to have the time in between each beverage. On day 9, which is the day you just drink juice you have to make the juice and drink it right after, which for me being at work all day was not possible so I just made it all before I left and just tried to keep it cool. It’s also very time consuming especially when you have to constantly clean your juicer and blender, which is such a pain. Lastly, some of the items he wants you to eat or drink are difficult to find. Wild blueberries, pitaya and hibiscus tea were all a challenge for me to find in the store. The tea I actually didn’t find until I was almost done with the cleanse. I think if you’re seriously considering the cleanse I would try to plan it out when the days you have to drink for an hour you’re at home along with the day when you just juice. Be prepared to feel a little tired when starting but I never felt like how I felt when I did the other cleanse in May, I was never really craving anything or had any flu like symptoms like when I did the juice cleanse months prior. I completed this cleanse in September, prior to the shutdown and I’m considering giving it another go.
